Each year thousands of childrens car seats are sent to the landfill, because there has traditionally been no alternative. In an effort to keep childrens car seats out of the landfill, Offutt Collision Repair has started a car seat recycling program.
In 2011, OCR began accepting childrens car seats that have expired, seats that have been in car accidents and seats that are no longer being used. All of this is at no cost to the owner. After being disassembled, the car seat materials are then sent to be destroyed and recycled. In our first year, we were able to recycle 300+ car seats. In 2012 we collected over 600 car seats and 2013 collected over 900. With the help of our community we are hoping to reach our goal of 1000 car seat before January 2015.
Offutt Collision Repair would like to encourage parents to be aware of the expiration date on seats and the history of the seats. Childrens car seats that have been used in accidents should be destroyed.
Used childrens car seats can be dropped off at Offutt Collision Repair Monday – Friday from 7:30am until 5:00pm.
